Welcome to TOCO Steels’ FAQ section – your quick guide to understanding our steel cut wire shots, their technical specifications, and performance benefits. Here, you’ll find clear answers to help you make informed and confident decisions for your blasting, peening, and surface preparation needs.
1. Why choose Cut Wire Shots?
Cut wire shots offer exceptional consistency in shape, hardness, chemistry, and microstructure. From wire sourcing to cutting, sieving, conditioning, and packing, we maintain strict quality control to ensure each particle performs reliably.
2. Major differences in cast shots vs. cut wire shots ?
| Properties | Cast Steel Shots | Cut Wire Shots |
|---|---|---|
| Raw Material | MS Scrap | High quality wires |
| Making Process | Tends to have irregularities in shape, size, microstructures, etc. leading to blow holes, pin tails and porosity. | Each piece is cut to a length equal to its diameter, leading to consistent shape and size and minimal irregularities. |
| Consistency & Performance | Low | Very high |
| Dust Generation | Very high | Low |
| Material Usage | High | Lower by 40-60% |
| Blasting Time Cycle | High | Lower by 15-20% |
3. TOCO’s manufacturing standards
We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer. TOCO’s products conform to SAE J441, VDFI 8001, DIN 8201 and AMS 2431.
4. Packaging Options
Our standard packaging size is 25kgs bags (HDPE or Kraft paper). These are packed into Jumbo Bags / Drums / Wooden Pallets of 1MT. We use standard EURO pallet design for all export consignments.
5. Effects on Machine Maintenance
Because our Cut Wire Shots produce very little dust, they reduce wear on machines and dust collectors. That means less downtime – boosting productivity significantly and reducing maintenance time and needs.
6. Types of Cut Wire Shots
We manufacture various types of Cut Wire Shots, including Carbon Steel Cut Wire Shots, Stainless Steel Cut Wire Shots, Aluminum Cut Wire Shots, Zinc Cut Wire Shots, Copper Cut Wire Shots and our new high performance peening media 6K Series.
7. Shapes of Cut Wire Shots
We offer various conditioning levels such as:
- As-Cut (No conditioning)
- Single Conditioned Cut Wire (CCW / G1)
- Double Conditioned Cut Wire (DCCW / G2)
- Spherically Conditioned Cut Wire (SCCW / G3)
8. Primary Applications of Cut Wire Shots
Cut wire shots are versatile and used in:
- Shot Blasting: For surface cleaning, deburring, and descaling
- Shot Peening: To improve fatigue life by introducing compressive stress on component surfaces.
- Surface Finishing: For a smooth, bright finish with minimal dust.
9. Are there environmental or safety benefits?
Yes, because our shots are very consistent and don’t fracture easily, dust generation is extremely low. This means cleaner work environments and less maintenance for filtration systems.
10. Can Cut Wire Shots be recycled / reused?
Absolutely. After use, they can be reclaimed via magnetic separation (if ferromagnetic) and reused many times, which reduces waste and cost.
11. How to choose the right shot size?
Shot size depends on the Application, Blast Machine design and the Required Intensity of cleaning/peening:
- Smaller sizes → more particles per kg → finer finish
- Larger sizes → less particles per kg → higher impact energy
12. Do you offer custom or specialty Cut Wire Shots?
Yes. We can produce custom wire shots on request – in terms of Material, Hardness, Conditioning, and Size – to suit all your special industrial applications.
